Heidi established Savvy Salvage in 2010. 

"I never had a new bike as a kid. Some people would think that is just awful. It wasn't. It was thrifty and free, and who cares! I grew out of it and got a "new" one... curbside.

I was born into the salvaging world. Most of the men in my immediate family worked in the garbage business. Most of my friends' families were in the garbage business. It was in my blood and upbringing.

I remember collecting newspapers from paper campaigns and even taking drives after work to pick up curbside finds when I was little. Recycling and refurbishing was the thing we just did. It saved a lot of things from going into the landfill, even before it was "cool."

Savvy Salvage was a dream in my head for over a decade. The name came from a pair of barn gable vents in the shape of the letter "S" my father stored for me for years. I knew it had to be my logo. The pair of wood letters hangs in the Savvy window and may very well be the only thing in my store that is not for sale.

Before Savvy, I loved hosting garage sales but this wasn't enough and led me to renting booths at the antique mall in town. Eventally, the opportunity came to rent a building during one of Dyersville's Annual Toy Shows for a weekend. It escalated and was a dream come true!"
